Paranchus albipes (Fabricius, 1796) - A Carabid or Ground Beetle (Marine arthropod images)
Carabid or Ground Beetle
Paranchus albipes
- above / on strandline 1

Images of species taken on the beach along the promenade at Wherrytown, Penzance, Cornwall, 26.08.12. SW 46568 29285. Approx. 1-2m above MHWM. Species was found under / between beach pebbles / shingle (a mix of Mylor Slate, granite and other minerals), average size 50mm, that formed a +/-100mm layer over a
clay substrate. Species 6mm in length but impossible to identify from images and dissection is needed to confirm identity. A number of these beetles were seen, they may or may not be specific to this type of habitat but are included here because of how close they were found to the strandline.

The main objective of this website is in furthering environmental awareness and education through the medium of photography. To increase awareness and access to the wildlife of the region and help
people find and identify it. Sometimes the difference between species is obvious but many species can only be determined by observing microscopic characteristics that are specific to any one species.
