The specimens above were found on the high tide mark at Langstone Rock, Dawlish Warren, Devon. 21.04.16.

This is NOT a true sea bean or seed, it is in fact a fungus which is usually found on Ash trees. The fungus has detached from branches and has got into rivers and washed into the sea where it has drifted around before being brought back to shore.

It's here because it was a beach find and it could potentially be mistaken for a decaying Mary's Bean, Merremia discoidesperma.

The main objective of this website is in furthering environmental awareness and education through the medium of photography. To increase awareness and access to the wildlife of the region and help
people find and identify it. Sometimes the difference between species is obvious but many species can only be determined by observing microscopic characteristics that are specific to any one species.
