Specimen found entering an old tubeworm tube that was on an equally old Dog cockle shell. The area where the nemertean was found has numerous Dog cockle shells, these were once dredged, the interior of the shells often contain a varied bryozoan fauna. The tubeworm tube and the Dog cockle shell may have nothing to do at all with the species of nemertean here. Its preferences have yet to be determined but this will be followed up.

Specimen found on the beach near slipway in the NW corner of Newlyn Harbour, Newlyn, Cornwall, 31.03.16.

Thanks to Professor Juan Junoy for identifying the specimen to family level from the images above.

The main objective of this website is in furthering environmental awareness and education through the medium of photography. To increase awareness and access to the wildlife of the region and help
people find and identify it. Sometimes the difference between species is obvious but many species can only be determined by observing microscopic characteristics that are specific to any one species.
