Arcuatula senhousia is a non-native invasive species that has been found recently at Southampton. The species is native to the East Asian Pacific. The species was first detected in the UK by eDNA techniques being used to find non-native invasive species at a marina in Southampton by Southampton University. The non-native invasive nemertean worm Cephalothrix simula was also detected by eDNA at Southampton but has not yet been physically found there. Cephalothris simula has been found elsewhere in the UK at two other locations in the west of England.

The specimen here was photographed on 21.09.18; it was originally collected from the Canal du Midi, Etang de Thau, near Marseillan, on the Mediterranean coast of France, where it has been introduced since 1982. It is believed the species was first recorded in 1960 in Tel Aviv, Israel.

APHOTOMARINE supports open source data recording and sharing for the benefit of wildlife, recorders, research, science and education. The project recommends the following websites and works with the following bodies and organisations.

The main objective of this website is in furthering environmental awareness and education through the medium of photography. To increase awareness and access to the wildlife of the region and help
people find and identify it. Sometimes the difference between species is obvious but many species can only be determined by observing microscopic characteristics that are specific to any one species.
