The Striped venus is one of the smaller members of the clam family, and it is easy to recognise because of its size, shape and markings, it is usually a little more than an inch across. It can only be confused with the Banded venus, but this species has wide bands instead of instead of concentric lines across its shell. The Striped venus is recorded mainly along the south coast of the region, the Banded venus being found on both coasts.
