Very commonly found alive or as shells on many beaches and estuaries across Devon and Cornwall.

The mussel, Mytilus edulis, specimen that was completely covered by the non-native bryozoan / sea mat Watersipora subatra was found on the side of a pontoon in Newlyn Harbour. 17.10.14.
