Fossils above were found whilst visually looking on the edges of landslips, away from the cliiff. The cliffs at Charmouth are made of very soft rocks and it is dangerous to look for fossils directly under the cliffs. Hammers are not needed to find fossils at Charmouth, many ammonites can be found on rock ledges at low tide.

people find and identify it. Sometimes the difference between species is obvious but many species can only be determined by observing microscopic characteristics that are specific to any one species.
