Gelidiocolax margaritoides - A red algae parasitic on Gelidium

Numerous specimens of this red parasitic algae were found on pieces of Gelidium sp. at Portreath, Cornwall, 21.04.18.

This small, pale, whitish algae is red algal species that is parasitic on Gelidium pulchellum, Beautiful Straggle Weed. Species found at Chimney Rocks, Penzance, Cornwall, 06.03.18. This is the first time the species has been found in the UK, it has previously been found on Gelidium in Spain, Portugal and South Africa.
