Specimen above found on a crab pot that appeared to have been in the water for some time, being recently caught in a trawl and brought to shore. Newlyn Marina, Newlyn, Cornwall. 29.08.15.

Specimen kindly identified by Jakov Prkić, who said the following about the specimen. "Snail with dark brown animal in the upper whorls has the shell very similar to that of V. philippi (sea urchin parasite), but there are no red spots on its animal, neither in the last whorl. Because of that I think it belongs to an another undescribed species from V. philippi-incurva complex. It would be very interesting if you can find and photograph other live specimens. You can call this specimen/species Vitreolina sp.."

APHOTOMARINE supports open source data recording and sharing for the benefit of wildlife, recorders, research, science and education. The project recommends the following websites and works with the following bodies and organisations.

The main objective of this website is in furthering environmental awareness and education through the medium of photography. To increase awareness and access to the wildlife of the region and help
people find and identify it. Sometimes the difference between species is obvious but many species can only be determined by observing microscopic characteristics that are specific to any one species.
