Specimen above found in scrape sample of fouling taken from a pontoon at Newlyn Marina, Newlyn Harbour, Newlyn, Cornwall. 03.07.17. The specimen above will eventually be sequenced to determine what it is. It may or may not be the same species as the other striped Amblyosyllis on this website. It could be a new UK species or it might be a southern species moving north.

Specimen above found in scrape sample of fouling taken from a pontoon at Newlyn Marina, Newlyn Harbour, Newlyn, Cornwall. 10.04.18. Please note, Newlyn Marina is a private marina and part of a commercial port.
The specimen here is distinct from Amblyosyllis formosa in that there are no markings on the anterior dorsal surface and the dorsal posterior has a white stripe running down the middle. Internally, the proventriculus is distinct but the most distinct feature compared with Amblyosyllis formosa is the trepan, which is very different, morphologically setting this apart from A. formosa.
Numerous new Amblyosyllis species were found as a result of the following study, "New morphological approach and molecular phylogenetic analysis of the genus Amblyosyllis (Annelida, Syllidae)", September 2015, by Domingo Lago-Barcia, M. Teresa Aguado, Arne Nygren and Fredrik Pleijel, but to my knowledge no species have been published as a result of the work.
