Numerous specimens found in a sample of algae collected from the extreme lowershore at Wherry Rocks, Penzance, Cornwall, 31.03.18.

The specimen on this page needs confirmation / verification, it's probably more important to record species like thia as Tetrastemma sp., and provide notes on the species or an image with the record so verification might be possible in the future. It is probably likely there are more species of Tetrastemma than are covered by current literature in the UK.

Of course here identification is based on morphological characteristics and the shape of the stylet. What is needed is a lot more sequencing of nemerteans in the UK to determine the species we have and their variabilty in terms of morphological characteristics, and for the purposes of recording.

The main objective of this website is in furthering environmental awareness and education through the medium of photography. To increase awareness and access to the wildlife of the region and help
people find and identify it. Sometimes the difference between species is obvious but many species can only be determined by observing microscopic characteristics that are specific to any one species.
