Tubificoides insularis
- hairs 1

The species here was found in gritty mud, between boulders, on the lowershore at Lariggan Rocks, Wherry Town, Penzance, Cornwall. 11.10.14. 50.109632°N 5.542722°W

The worm was found in fully saline conditions, no freshwater sources were close to where the species was found. Several worms were found outstretched, but on placing in seawater soon coiled up tight, in the manner of a nemertean worm. Visualy the species looked to be all black.

The species here was kindly identified by Ton van Haaren, who stated that Tubificoides insularis has hairs while Tubificoides benedii has none, see fifth image.

The main objective of this website is in furthering environmental awareness and education through the medium of photography. To increase awareness and access to the wildlife of the region and help
people find and identify it. Sometimes the difference between species is obvious but many species can only be determined by observing microscopic characteristics that are specific to any one species.
